(Lietuvių) Didėjant krovininių automobilių srautui per Baltarusiją, Lietuvos ir Baltarusijos pasienyje susidaro ilgos vilkikų eilės. Kai kurie transporto įmonių vadovai prognozuoja dar labiau išaugsiančias gabenimų apimtis per Baltarusijos teritoriją. To priežastis – pasikeitusi krovinių tranzito tvarka Rusijoje.

The carriers by road already has the ability to choose whether to wait during the night on border or use the new rail service that will faster carry trucks and semi-trailers to Belarus. The new “Lithuanian Railways” and the Belarusian railway project is symbolically named “Nemunas”.

When the reconstruction of Medininkai Border Checkpoint was accomplished in 2012, the designed throughput has increased from 2,900 vehicles up to 3,200 vehicles per day (per twenty-four hours). In that year, for freight vehicles entering Lithuania an additional traffic lane and a vehicle waiting area were set up, the checkpoint’s asphalt pavement was renewed, as well as a traffic management system and a fixed X-ray control system were installed.

The government has decided to limit the excise fuel across the Lithuanian border, where they are transported in car fuel tanks and additional portable tanks. The largest share of illegal fuel in Lithuania comes from Russia and Belarus, where they are cheaper. Some time ago the Lithuanian oil products trade association suggested Lithuania to follow the example of neighbor Poland and limit the fuels in vehicles entering the country. It is proposed that when entering the country one truck has to have up to 200 liters of fuel. The oil traders thinks, that this will increase sales in Lithuanian, because now smuggled fuel takes up to one-third of the total market, resulting in a rapid decrease of sales for local station operators and oil producers. It also has a negative impact on the state budget because excise taxes are not collected.

Contrailer transportation by rail along international routes could make it possible to solve many global transport problems. Cargo consignors would save time, which is lost at the borders where trucks are waiting in queues for customs inspections. The traffic of freight trains is managed rationally and calculatedly, planning routes in advance and foreseeing all circumstances that may arise. In the recent time, modern information technologies are employed for that purpose.
